Artist Statement:

I have been painting for over 20 years. I turned to painting when I was in my 30s after drawing since I was a toddler. I grew up in a family with artists and where music, art, and literature were a part of daily life. I attended the University of Maryland and earned a BS degree in Housing in 1975, where I learned to design floor plans and draw building renderings. I started painting by teaching myself from books in 1987. I began showing and selling my work in tourist shops upon moving to Fredericksburg in 1995. Fueled by a more serious desire to develop my work, I attended community center classes and later college classes and earned a Fine Arts degree from Germanna Community College. However, I remain largely self-taught and feel that every artist must be willing to teach themselves and find inspiration within themselves in order to find their own voice.
